2020's Hottest Wedding Trend: Dried Flowers

Dried flowers are one of my favourite wedding trends of 2020. The muted, sun-bleached hues and the array of textures that dried flowers offer can add that little touch of magic to your bouquets, boutonnieres, backdrops, hanging floral installations and centrepieces.

Dried flowers lend themselves to both vintage and modern styles of weddings, and incorporating out-of-the-ordinary blooms, seed pods, dried grasses and other exquisite botanicals into your decor makes for some pretty wow-worthy wedding touches!

While dried flowers are often thought of as old fashioned, colourless and less fragrant than their fresh floral alternative, these everlasting beauties have many benefits! Aside from their on-trend warm tones and endless varieties of shape and texture, they can preserve your memories long after your wedding. Whether you choose an entirely dried bouquet, or combine dried elements with fresh blooms, I am simply head over heels for this trend.

You can dry almost any flower, but some work better than others in bouquets and arrangements. Chat to your florist for advice on how best to incorporate this trend into your upcoming event, or check out the list below for some of my favourites!

  • Grasses such as toi toi, pampas grass and bunny tails.

  • Leaves such as eucalyptus (I love both the long-leaved and silver dollar varieties) and chrysanthemum leaves.

  • Dried Flowers such as gypsophila, baby's breath, proteas, hydrangeas, delphinium, roses, lavender, carnations, and helichrysum.

  • Fronds such as ferns and palm leaves.

  • Branches of pussy willow.

  • Seed Pods such as poppy seed and lotus.
